No Zlatan, No Problem: Sweden Unveils 23-Man World Cup Squad.

Football single post

  • The Swedish Football Association announced its official 23-man roster for the World Cup in Russia, and as expected, ponytailed purveyor of astonishing goals Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not been included.

Janne Andersen's lot unveiled its squad with an Instagram post on Tuesday ahead of a pair of upcoming warm-up friendlies with Denmark and peru.

Seattle Sounders defender and member of Andersen's roster, Gustav Svensson, last week told theScore that others merited the attention Sweden's all-time leading scorer was receiving. "It's a little bit sad that he gets a lot of attention when he might not go," Svensson conceded. "I think that you could put the attention on other players like Emil Forsberg or someone that has been great for the national team during the qualification, and know that they will be great during the World Cup."

With the Ibrahimovic dilemma in the rearview and Andersen's squad set, the Swedes can now look ahead to a tough World Cup group, which it kicks off on June 18 against South Korea before facing Germany and Mexico.

The full Sweden squad is as follows:

GK: Robin Olsen (FC Copenhagen), Karl-Johan Johnsson (Guingamp), Kristoffer Nordfeldt (Swansea City)

DF: Mikael Lustig (Celtic), Victor Nilsson Lindelof (Manchester United), Andreas Granqvist (Krasnodar), Martin Olsson (Swansea City), Ludwig Augustinsson (Werder Bremen), Filip Helander (Bologna), Emil Krafth (Bologna), Pontus Jansson (Leeds United)

MF: Viktor Claesson (Krasnodar), Jimmy Durmaz (Toulouse), Albin Ekdal (Hamburg), Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig), Sebastian Larsson (Hull City), Gustav Svensson (Seattle Sounders), Oscar Hiljemark (Genoa), Marcus Rohden (Crotone)

FW: Marcus Berg (Al Ain), John Guidetti (Alaves), Isaac Kiese Thelin (Waaslan-Beveren), Ola Toivonen (Toulouse).
