Governor Okorocha Refuses To Disclose The Cost Of Zuma, Sirleaf Statues.

It is no more news that the Governor of Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha recently erected statues of some African Presidents including that of Mr Jacob Zuma the South African President. It is also not news that of all the erected statues, that of The South African President has generated so much uproar from the people of both Imo state and Nigeria generally. The reason many has given for this outcry stems from the fact that the governor has not paid salary to civil servants in the states as some alleged, to the fact that the man Zuma is being indicted with so many charges of Corruption in The Country that He rules, while others are angry because of the incessant killings of Nigerians and other African in the xenophobic attacks in South Africa while President Zuma allegedly turns a blind eye. Others have alleged that the governor spent over N1biilion in erecting the statue irrespective of the widespread hunger and apathy in the state. Even back in Zuma's home nation, there were street protests condemning the erection of a statue in his honor.
Governor Rochas Okorocha in a TV interview granted to Channels TV Question Time’s anchor Mr Olugbenga Ashiru. The Imo state governor refused to disclose the exact amount that he had expended in erecting the statue of South African President Mr Jacob Zuma Particularly. The statue has generated so much controversy since its erection when the Southern African President came visiting the state during the year.
When pressed further to disclose how much the statue costs, the governor said that when people asked him in writing that he would respond.
The reporter pressed further that he is representing the people, the governor answered, that until the people he governs directly asks him, that he will disclose same.
He further said that he owes no worker any salary, that the issue in Imo state is issue of verification.
When asked about why he will erect a statue of someone who is facing over 700 allegations of corruption, to this he said that it does not make sense, since he is only indicted but not convicted.
