The School In Question

  • A Video has emerged and currently trending on social media allegedly taking in Mgbidi, Mgbidi is the headquarters of Oru West Local Government area in Imo State, South East Nigeria.

In the horrible and disgraceful video school children can be seen studying in a very dangerous and dilapidated building (for the sake of better words). Not only that the school building is not fit for any human habitation, the school children were studying with no basic educational amenities, the conditon was devoid of any human dignity, No Chairs, No Tables etc.

The roof of the building has holes over it, meaning that when it rains the students will have to run for safety or better still get drenched with the rain, considering the fragile state of the ramshackle building as seen on the video, it could collapse at any time. The children studying in that building are definitely in danger and it is seriously by cheer luck that those kids go in and out of that building safely without serious fatalities.

The Person behind the video alleged that the roof of the same building had falling on top of a teacher in the past, fortunately the teacher survived after being taking to the hospital.

The recorder Greg Nwadike was heard calling on the state governor to come to their rescue of children and the school. While this video and its source is not verified by us, the fact is clear for all to see and this is not acceptable and should not be accepted by Nigerians and especially people from Mgbidi in the 21st century. The minister of education in the state and the local government executives should be made to answer for this type of wicked neglect. This is not only neglecting the future leaders of the nation but it is also putting their lives, the lives of their teachers and everyone who comes into that building is also in a very grave danger.

Nigeria and Nigerian's will never change if the education sector is not seriously invested in, this case is definetly not an isolated case in Nigeria. There are schools that are probably worst than this, and we have leaders from all over Nigeria boasting of investment in Education while others are squandering the monies meant for these necessary infrastructures.

This must stop, Nigerian's should be outraged with this and other neglects in the society caused by those saddled with the responsiblity to make them better.

This is a big shame to Nigeria and the Nigerian educational system.

President Buhari should declare a state of emergency in the Nigerian Educational sector without delay, there will be no better way to fight corruption if the will is there than to adequately educate the future generations.

This should be a matter of national urgency, for every other ill in the society festers because of the poor quality of education In Nigeria.

As The Great Nelson Mandela Said "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world

Nigerians should rise up and see that their leaders are hold accountable for their actions.
